This week's photos are from the Friday before this year's Marquette Trail 50 race.
When we go up to Marquette for the trail race, we usually drive up north Thursday afternoon. We wake up on Friday morning and spend the day sight seeing in Marquette, then the runners hit the hay early to wake up at 4:30 a.m. for the race on Saturday. This year we went out to Preque Isle Park for a day of hiking. Toward the end of the afternoon it seemed like a really fun idea to climb the rocks all the way out to the Upper Harbor lighthouse. And it was! You know, for the first 50 yards. In case anyone was wondering: climbing on rocks is a little more difficult than walking on perfectly flat pavement. We made it out, though, and it set us up for a really yummy dinner that night at The Vierling. Next year, though, it might not be an ideal activity for someone like Mama who was scheduled to run 50 kilometers through the woods. Ah well, you live you learn. 'Til next year, Marquette.
