I guess maybe it's not normal for a 25 year old with no kids on the field to be SUPER PUMPED for a high school football game. I thought about it all week, trying to figure out why I love it so much. And the truth is, I think it has very little to do with football, or even with the marching band. I love football games because they bring together a huge cross section of our city. The stands are filled with parents, grandparents, friends, teachers, administrators. The field is full of musicians and athletes and musician-athletes. The student section is full of the cool kids and the not-so-cool kids. Middle schoolers come to walk around in circles and break up with their girlfriend. There is so much life happening here under the lights.
