Sometimes it's simple: just a lazy Tuesday in March when procrastination gets the best of me and I head out to Portland, MI for the afternoon instead.
Sometimes it's life changing, like when a sixteen year old boards a plane for eleven months in search of a new homeland.
And sometimes it's a little bit scary, like when I have no idea where I'm going to sleep for the second half of my walking trip next week.
I head out the day after the day after tomorrow (Monday) and I've decided not to work very hard to find camping hosts for the second half of the trip. I've done a lot of traveling with websites like Couchsurfing, so staying with pre-approved friendly strangers is not that scary. Knocking on the doors of COMPLETE strangers? That makes my insides go a little bit wiggly. And when it comes to adventure, I think getting a little wiggly is kind of the whole point.
So for me, the real adventure starts Thursday morning: that's the day that I'll walk off into the morning with no idea where I'll be sleeping that night.
p.s. I'll be on the road next week with limited Internet, so next week's Rosiechild posts will be scheduled before I leave and unrelated to the trip. Look to Instagram for live updates (@rosierivard) and more complete reports will come the week after.
