Last week in New York, I was cruising through Grand Central on my way out to Laguardia on my way back home. There's a surprisingly good coffee shop in the station and I stopped by for something caffeinated to keep me entertained on the subway. "Small latte, please!"
*hands plastic card forward*
"Oh, sorry we're cash only."
Shit. I knew that, too, and totally forgot.
"Oh, yeah, sorry. Ok, I'll be right back."
"No, no, that's fine. We're already making it. How about this - pay us back when you get a chance?"
Yes I will pay you back. Next time I'm in New York I will buy another coffee and leave you a 1000% tip. I will tell this story to everyone I know.
Joe's Coffee in New York. Four or five locations in Manhattan, all. Be there.
And then today in Bay City, these ladies walked into Populace, on a pit stop from a bike ride around town.
"Hey, we're on a bike ride and we don't have any cash on us - can I stop back in later and pay you?"
"Yeah, of course."
Happy Birthday, America. You are full of beautiful people.
